I don’t remember a lot of books I read growing up, but a couple of authors definitely stand out in my memory. I knew once I found out I was pregnant that I wanted to fill Alivia’s library with favorites from my childhood and starting hunting. We filled her shelves with Little Critter, Robert Munsch and of course, my personal favorite – The Berenstain Bears’.
When I was approached to review the new The Berenstain Bears’ Please & Thank You Book, I jumped on the chance to introduce a new story from an old favorite. This new addition is written by Mike Berenstain, the son of the original mom & dad team who started this wonderful series.
We always try to include a mixture of stories in our bedtime routine, most importantly ones that teach lessons that we can work on throughout the day. Right now we are focusing on manners, using our please and thank you’s appropriately and being kind every chance we can. I’m pleased to say that it doesn’t take very many gentle reminders, but they never hurt! It’s very easy to get into a habit of saying “I want!” and forgetting our manners, in this new book the reminders given to Brother, Sister and Honey help to gently remind the littles around us that you get more bees with honey… or in this case, more cookies with please.
In this new treasure, little readers and their helpers are introduced to the importance of using their manners through gentle, loving reminders. This is a short story and provides toddlers and kids alike with the perfect introduction to valuable life lessons and routines. The book comes in my opinion, the perfect size hard cover for little fingers to flip through the pages eagerly and learn about their please & thank you’s!
We have had this new book on our shelf for just over a week and I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve picked it up for story time, or I’ve walked in to see Alivia flipping through it on her own. It has certainly become a new favorite in our routine.
