Spring has Sprung with Blossom at Metropolis at Metrotown #METBlossom

Blossom at Metropolis at Metrotown

It’s been a little bit of a crazy winter in Metro Vancouver and I won’t lie, I’m longing for Spring and to be surrounded by flowers again. The constant snowfall warnings are starting to wear on me and I can’t wait to get into the garden. In the meantime though, you can join me at in enjoying the new “Blossom” display at Metropolis at Metrotown! The newest display is sure to get you reflecting into spring, longing for buds and blossoms and ready to say goodbye to the dreary weather.

Nothing says Spring in Metro Vancouver quite like the sudden appearance of cherry blossoms throughout every neighborhood. They turn quiet streets into Instagram worthy hubs in hopes of catching that beautiful shot and guess what? You can do that RIGHT NOW at the grand court without hanging out in your neighbours yard!

The newest activation at the Grand Court at Metropolis at Metrotown is a beautiful display of blush pink and white cherry blossoms that are both awe-inspiring, creative and a perfect place to stop to enjoy a few moments of reflection time.  Created by Vancouver interactive-arts company Hfour, visitors will be treated to a display with over 250,000 cherry blossoms that are nestled into dozens of mirror spheres that reflect the beauty of the blossoms as far as the eye can see. The largest sphere is over 4 metres in size and creates an illusion of infinite blooms throughout the space.

Similar to the Lunar New Year displays, there will be accompanying workshops happening alongside this display, including a variety of floral art and Japanese cultural workshops every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the installation’s 27 days, presented in collaboration with MUJI (Workshop Wednesdays) and Nikkei National Museum & Cultural Centre (Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Workshops include origami, brush lettering, traditional Japanese paper and fabric art, flower arranging, traditional Japanese folk dancing, and much more. Visit metropolisatmetrotown.com for the complete schedule, registration information, and age restrictions (some workshops are all-ages).

Blossom at Metropolis is unlike anything we’ve hosted here before,” says Judy Black, Marketing Director for Metropolis at Metrotown. “We can’t wait to see the reactions of our guests and how they interpret this art installation, enjoy one of our many workshops, and share their experiences with their family and friends.”

When we visited for a preview of the display many of us were just in awe of being surrounded in the beautiful cherry blossoms, you could spot bloggers and photographers taking photos from every angle around the display, some down low on the floor, some taking photos from up above, we all had one thing in common though, we were loving the Spring vibes surrounding us. I won’t lie, being able to look up at the displays hanging above and relax inside the “insta-worthy” seating area was lovely and definitely something I could see myself stopping in to enjoy again while it’s on display!

Oh, and a heads up… don’t shuffle your feet on the floor and touch the balls, they gave me a little shock (hence the funny face) and my friends found it hilarious! The little bursts of cherry blossoms coming out from below the spheres are the perfect spot for some fun kiddo photos as well so make sure to bring the kids in to see them. They are delicate and a piece of art though so do use gentle hands. Having been up close in the display and chatting with the creators, I can see how much love and attention went into creating this beautiful space for everyone to enjoy.
