70th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo returns May 20-23

Cloverdale Rodeo

Cloverdale Rodeo

It’s that time of year again! I am always excited when  May long weekend creeps up on us, because it means the Rodeo is back in town. If you  haven’t had a chance to explore the Cloverdale Rodeo yet, there’s a whole lot happening and it’s perfect way to spend the weekend. As a kid, we used to go as a family, since having Alivia we’ve always been out of town or working on May long (boo!), so we were super excited that my work schedule has changed to having Saturday’s off, and we’re so spending one of them at the Rodeo! Whether you are a country fan or not, there’s no denying that the Cloverdale Rodeo brings together country and city in an amazing mix of displays and entertainment! So strap on your boots, dust off those wranglers and join us for  one of North America’s longest running and most entertaining displays at the 70th annual Cloverdale Rodeo!

The Cloverdale Invitational Rodeo will once again feature the World’s best Cowboys and Cowgirls as they compete for cash prizes in roughstock rodeo events like Saddle Bronc Riding, Bareback Riding and Bull Riding, as well as Ladies Barrel Racing. Kids also get their turn in the spotlight with the always-entertaining Mutton Bustin’ competition.

The BC Country Music Association (BCCMA) will also be hosting a meet-and-greet in their impressive pavilion this year with over 50 of your favourite BCCMA Artists performing throughout the May Long Weekend. This pavilion, called Boots and Buckles, is open to all ages and is free until 8 pm when it will transform into a dance hall with live music for 19+ Fair attendees.

BCCMA nine-time nominees and familiar West Coast music duo Carli and Julie Kennedy, otherwise known as Twin Kennedy, will be performing the National Anthem all weekend long in the Stetson Bowl and will welcomed to the Live Outdoor Entertainment Stage for a couple of shows as well. Robyn and Ryleigh, Appaloosa, and the Chris Buck Band will also be performing throughout the weekend on the same stage.

Another popular area returning to the event is the Western Fine Arts Show, one of BC’s largest and most prestigious art shows. Featuring between 15 and 20 artists, a percentage of all proceeds will be donated to C.H.I.L.D. Foundation and the Cloverdale Youth Initiative. Artists will also be in attendance to discuss and show The 70th Annual Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair are extremely proud to announce that for one night only, Sunday, May 22nd, 2016- Chad Brownlee, Pro Hockey Player turned Country Singer will be performing at the Longhorn Saloon. Beat-the-line tickets will be available until 9 pm only so get there early.

The Longhorn Saloon is one of the Rodeo’s most anticipated features and will once again be providing entertainment and activities from 4:00pm to 2:00am with daily performances by Ettinger & Big 50 and the Ken McCoy Band. Don’t forget to also check out the West Coast Lumberjack Show – a jam-packed show full with tons of action such as the chair carve, hot saw race, axe throwing, log rolling, standing block chop and more.

On top of all these exciting events at the Rodeo, families will have a great time enjoying the Country Fair with the Agri Zone and Cone Zone, and the Envision Kidz Zone. Here, kids work through various training challenges to become to ultimate Cowboy or Cowgirl, bragging rights much?

The Cloverdale Rodeo and Country Fair is also very proud to showcase The 5th annual World Freestyle Round-Up. Each day there will be several shows featuring freestyle top skateboard athletes from around the world. The event is also home to BC’s largest traveling midway, with dozens of rides for thrill seekers of all ages.

Make sure to come hungry to, and leave room for the delicious food options available at my personal favourite – Rib Zone!
